A grumpy Friday Lady

We have to say. This week’s Friday Lady does look a little bit grumpy. She obviously was not really in the mood to pose for the photograph. Or is it her serious look? The lady we see is one of the three Dunsmuir daughters. Her father Robert Dunsmuir was at the time a very successful Canadian industrialist in multiple fields. Including the coal mine industry and as railway developer but he was also active as a politician. A man with multiple talents.

In 1915, the photograph (click to enlarge) we see was taken by a member of the Dunsmuir family in the porte-cochere at Hatley Park Castle located in Colwood, British Columbia. This is the place where the family lived for many years. Nowadays Hatley Park is a National Historic Site and used as décor in various well-known television series and films.

Maybe you can already guess what the next question will be. Correct! Can anyone tell us more about the pre-war we see here? We can clearly see the contours of the back of the body and mudguards. And of course the oval-shaped window. Is this enough information for you to identify the car?

Please comment below and tell us everything you (think) you know about the car.

I agree with Craig Gillingham, that the car is almost certainly a Cadillac. The rear spring system with two half-elliptic longitudinal springs and a half-elliptic transverse spring can just be seen. Pierce-Arrow had threequarter-elliptic springs at the rear, which would have looked quite different. Another detail is the small sidelight at the left, which seems to match with some of the 1915 closed Cadillac models. These lights were present on both the open-drive as well as the inside-drive limousine(-berline). Of course we cannot see which of these is hidden behind the lady. The oval rear window, though used by more makes, was also a Cadillac feature.

Well, it looks like the skirt hemline has recently been raised to a rather daring height. As for the car, I would guess Pierce Arrow

The shackle mounts suggest it's a traverse rear spring, very much like a Cadillac, although I can't tell you much more.
