‘The current generation of old vehicle enthusiasts grows older, we all face the same conundrum, how to preserve the vehicles we've loved so future generations can appreciate our handiwork.
As a family man with a lifelong passion for old motorcycles and more recently cars, none of my three children have chosen to follow my interest for either their sake or mine. My daughter turns 30 today and all the family and their partners are coming home to Scotland to help celebrate the occasion.
She is passionate about the past and works in the heritage sector, so she's clearly acquired some of my enthusiasm for old things, even if its buildings, not vehicles that have captured her imagination.
To remind folk that I did try to get them into old vehicles, here are two lovely images of her growing up, and venturing into her dad's world. First is my dear friend from the Bullnose Morris Club, the late Terry Easton, smiling as she poses at the wheel of his 12HP 1903 Wolseley, which has long been a cherished image.
Second is her posed beside my 1924 Bullnose Morris Cowley. I had edited the club magazine from 1988 - 1992 when the family traveled to Canberra on a work placement, so the editing job was handed to the next incumbent who held the post for 14 years.
We had gone out together in March 1999 to watch the veteran motorcycle run to Brighton and we had stopped for a comfort break. She recently found the snap and made me a birthday card from it which I loved.’
