Recently François De Backer visited the Pastel Show in Aureville near Toulouse in France. One car that took his fancy was this Millot. François writes that it dates from 1898 as written on the registration plate. True, the company Millot Frères was founded in 1805 and started making farm equipment. From 1892 they also made stationary engines, but didn’t begin making a car until 1901. However, from 1900 on they also made a self-propelled saw-bench, powered by a 9hp single cylinder engine under the seat. And some of these saw-benches have been fitted with a vis-à-vis passenger body. Are we looking at one of these? But even then the date 1898 doesn’t fit. Who can help us with additional info?

An Update came in from Wilfried Brunner (see his comment below) who has send us a leaflet of a mobile saw that mentions March 3, 1899 as the date for the first Millot automobile. Wilfried adds: "Maybe they could change the body, workdays with saw, sunday with seats?"
The differences between the car and the saw bench include.
1). All iron parts including the chassis painted black rather than red.
2). The long aperture at the base of the wooden bodywork of the saw bench is replaced by two shorter apertures.
3). The word Millot in brass is attached to the rear mounted radiator and to the front panel of the wooden bodywork,
4). A black painted metal apron is mounted at the front.
5). A hardwood, solid oak on my 1900 Millot, is used for the bodywork.
6). No sign of any saw bench mechanism.
