A reproduction that makes purists smile

Replica, reproduction, bitsa, special; all words that often lead to fierce conversations among classic car enthusiasts. A purist would say it is not a collectable car, however others see a way to have their dream come true. A dream that otherwise might never get any closer. Take for instance one of the famous Alfa Romeo cars, the mighty Monza. Who doesn't dream about this? A real one does not come to the market often, and if it did, you would need a fat wallet. However, in Bonhams upcoming Scottsdale auction on 21 January a replica will be auctioned. It is likely to put a little smile on the face of even the purist classic car enthusiast.

Alfa Romeo-based 6C 2300 Monza Replica

The chassis of the car we are talking about is constructed by a well-known engineering firm in New Zealand. A new 8C Alfa chassis was built to the exact standards and to correct Monza specification, using period methods. A cast steel front axle and fabricated rear differential were mounted. Fully mechanical brakes with adjustable friction dampers were installed on all 4 wheels.

The auctioneer tells us the car is fitted with an original 1938 Alfa Romeo 6C supercharged engine (no. 823903), that was located in Eastern Europe. But there are no further details or records of where the engine originated. The engine was rebuilt and some significant performance upgrades were carried out (you will find more detailed info here). The coachwork and interior show true craftsmanship and look like they are built to the highest standards. Vintage Jaeger gauges, period Bosch lights and electronics, and a reserve tank, are fitted to this iconic red Alfa that is ready to hit the road.

If you ask us, this is a fantastic recreation of the legendary Monza that will certainly be enjoyed by its new owner!
