About Tough to Crack Car Puzzle # 28: 1962 Adams XP

Outer space projects are not our cup of tea and that was shown by the number of correct answers on last week's quiz. Only three -Mark Nugent, Kaspars Dortãns and Donald van Mourik- came up with the right answer. Both Kaspars and Donald coughed up a lot of information about this experimental car, but in this case the winner must be Mark Nugent, who in a super short sentence told us all we asked for: "The designers name for (car puzzle #28) is Dennis Adams, he worked for Marcos, and the prototype was called the XP." Congratulations, Mark, the T-shirt is yours! See Read More for the answers given by Kaspars and Donald.

Kaspars Dortāns: "Adams brothers (Peter and Dennis) had passion for motor car design and at times worked for Marcos (founded in Luton, in Bedfordshire, England, in 1959 by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin). After working on gull-wing Marcos they started their own mid-engined three-seater with sliding doors, a Perspex bubble top and a central driving position, an aerofoil over the top: XP, 1962 – the Puzzle car. Ideas were later incorporated in sensational production car – Marcos GT designed by Dennis Adams.

Donald van Mourik: "The car is the prototype from Marcos. Named Marcos XP (Experimental Project) Marcos, a car manufacturer named after Jem MARs en Frank COStin. Designers were the Adams brothers Peter and Dennis. Interesting was the noseform (for great downforce) and the smooth underside. It had a low drag coefficient. In 1962 there was a restart with a new (Marcos) company by Greville Cavendish and further development was there for the XP. This was not successful, but at the end it results in the Marcos GT sportscar."
