About what is it? Quiz #474: 1920 Tic-Tac

Once again, we are pleasantly surprised by the knowledge of our readers. We found this photo on the internet and had the idea it would be a tough one but no, once again a lot of (correct) response came in.

It started with Robbie Marenzi, who said: "F. Dumoullin in his Tic Tac at the Circuit de la Sarthe, August 27th, 1920. Tic Tac was made in Puteaux, Seine; France 1920/24. The first model was a cyclecar with a four-cylinder 985cc. Ruby engine. Later models had Chapuis-Dornier and Janvier engines, including a three valve per cylinder 1500cc.." He also added a photo of the car at Le Mans.

After that, Gerd Klioba told us in what event the car was driven "at the 8th Coupe des Voiturettes. It did not finish because of brake problems after one lap. Looking at the driver's name the car was probably named as a reference to the famous French song 'Le Moulin de Maître Jean' with its well-known refrain 'Ecoutez le tic-tac du Moulin'." We like this idea Gerd!

Fried Stol concluded that the brake problem wasn't the only reason for the lack of success: "it wasn’t as fast as it looked as “The Autocar” noted, “The Tic-Tac didn’t have a chance in the race and was a nuisance to the faster cars".

A bit extra information came from Ole Kristian Haugen "drive was by belt, not chain". No all answers were correct. As Fritz Hegemann thought it was a Mars and Lance Milne named it "the beastette of Torino".

As a lot of the answers were very complete and with a lot of information, choosing a winner was hard. But as Fried Stol had the most complete info; we declare him the winner of this week.

This brings us to the score in the very exciting competition.

Top 3 in the six month competition, sponsored by Hans Compter Rare Cars:

1. Gerd Klioba: 30 points.

2. Frits Hegemann: 23 points.

3. Fried Stol: 22 points.
