Alvis Speed 20 Back in Action

Probably taken at Prescott in the 1950’s, this photo shows a 1934 Alvis Speed 20SB Vanden Plas Tourer tackling the hill. This Alvis has clearly been used for other competition work too, as can be judged by the go-faster 'goodies'… an oil cooler, quick-release radiator filler cap, drilled carburettor bulge, re-profiled throttle pedal, early Kenlowe electric fan and single aeroscreen. Nothing is known about its racing history, but perhaps someone who recognizes the 'Johnson & Brown of Bromley' supplier's plaque could tell us more. After its racing career the Alvis has remained in the same hands for 43 years, staying in dry-storage much of the time. Despite the dulled paintwork and worn upholstery the 20SB still looks great, and we suspect that with some TLC it can be brought back in action without major problems. Find this Alvis at H&H’s Auction on October 22nd.
