An intriguing 'Damier' skin on a PreWarCar
“The attached picture dated August 1920 shows what appears to be an Avion Voisin automobile, its proud owners and their dogs. What is intriguing is the pattern on the body which resembles the 'Damier' or checkerboard pattern often seen on Louis Vuitton trunks. It looks as if the car was wrapped in a leather or fabric skin with this pattern? Has anyone seen this before?”
This message was sent to us by Stephan. Does anyone recognize the Damier fabric coverings this PreWarCar and can tell us more about it (and maybe about the car)?

Provided that this car was a Panhard&Levassor, it could have been a 10CV type from 1927. A sedan with a similar front (no louvres) is depicted in Bernhard Vermeylen's superb book "Panhard & Levassor entre tradition et modernité" on page p.118. But: Shouldn't be the typical v-shaped radiator be visible even from this perspective? And what about the front lights? - There seem to be none. Maybe, one should consider another manufacturer (apart from Avions Voisin, of course)...

Certainly no Voisin, but it looks like a Voisin body. Voisin offered the C3-L with this special body from 1924 to 1926. But there are some "little things" that are "wrong" for a Voisin. At first of course the shape of the radiator: definetly no Voisin. The wheels are wrong, too. There were few Voisin with wooden spokes, but all C3 or C5 I know have 14 instead of the 12 spokes on the photo. I have also never seen a Voisin with the fuel-filler on the drivers side. And for a C3, the hood seems too short. But the body really looks like the Voisin one. The only difference, I can spot is the window in the C-pillar, that the Voisin didn´t have. I think Francisco Carrión Cárdenas is correct, with the Panhard-Levassor.
