Back to our Roots

Or perhaps the title should be: ‘Where to leave your mother-in-law?’ Anyway, a few weeks ago we decided to visit the Dutch Museum of Carriages, one of the best of its kind in Europe. It proved a very nice visit, as it gives a wonderful impression of the roots of the early automobiles we love so much and the way they started… as a carriage with an engine attached. And those early carriages already had ‘styling features’ that we have seen only in cars, like this special ‘Mother-in-Law’-seat. The rumble-seat or dickey-seat could be in open or closed position, just like this ‘modern version' on a Model A. Too bad that because of its vulnerability, we weren’t allowed to photograph this seat in the closed position.
