Beached Bullnose

It's that time of year when schools have broken up for the summer holiday and everyone heads for the seaside. But beware the temptation to get your car nearer the water than your neighbours, because cars are heavy and the shingle will not give any grip - so you sink as these girls found out in 1924 when their Bullnose Morris refused to budge.

Don't think sand is any safer. It's one thing to drive onto Pendine Sands with your Hot Rod and drive fast , but woe betide anyone who does not get back on the road before high tide! Our friend and photographer Stefan Marjoram had the right idea when he visited Pendine Sands recently with his camera, he left the car in the car park and built a sand car instead of a sand castle.

To build a sand version of the Fiat S76 would require a lot, lot more sand. If you squint, a T-13 sort of looks like a mini Beast, does it not?

I think E Thomas is very much mistaken in that being a Bugatti ! Looks something much more fun and knowing Stephan has been involved with The Beast of Turin aka a FIAT S76, it is much more like that.

I live near Burnham-on-Sea, in the UK, on the Severn estuary. The beach is mud overlaid by a few inches of sand and the tide goes out a long way. In my youth the locals would wait in the sand dunes with spanners, after some unfortunate holiday maker from the Midlands had driven happily towards the sea, half a mile away, and got stuck. The car would be immovable after one tide. Lots of useful vintage parts. This story may be apocryphal!

Wondering why he is sitting in a sand Bugatti T-13 wearing long pants, shirt, and a hat. Likely it is 48 degrees and sort of sunny. Welcome to summer!
