California Automobile engineering history at risk

By James Long: "I wanted to let you know that the Hub Society had made a discovery. This car is a 1915 Overland series 80. The chassis that was used for the display at the Panama Pacific Exop of 1915 in SanFrancisco. It was a complete chassis and was made as a cut away. It went on to be used as a teaching tool at U.C. Berkeley, but was sold to the current owner in the late 1980's. Our program teaches youth about Automotive history and introduces them to materials science. I have a strong desire to save this car and use it as an amazing tool to show why quality materials and science are important. The car is currently being used as a parts car for the owners driver. I would propose to make it trailer mounted and use it for seminars. This car is too important to become a pile of parts. If you know of a 1915 series 80 we may be able to trade it for this very important link to our automotive past and future."

Perhaps almost criminal to use such an important piece of Willys Overland Jeep Chrysler history for parts. When I was a kid I went with my father and one of his employees Dave Bell all over the US to retrieve WOK display cylinders and factory memorabilia .
