Cook by Electricity (UPDATE: All Albions!)

One more photo from the collection of Barry Stalker in Australia. It shows three trucks from the St. George County Council who became in 1910, as far as we were able to find out, responsible for the electricity supply in and around Sydney. Although each of the three trucks are different, they all look the same make to us. Can you tell us more?

I knew the trucks were albions the far one is an earlier model. There were lotsof albions in sydney as trucks and buses inthe 30'sand 40's.Trams used to operate in the Stgeorge district ff sydney which is onthe south eastern side of the city still. trams were originally horse drawn, then steam and then electric trolley buses operated only on some routes and were still operating wheni was a chid in the late 30s. MY dad and his brother had an Albion truck after ww1 and delivered "ice" on there first run up Waterfall hill(which usedto be a popular hillclimb course)the ice slid to the back of the truck lifting the frontwheels of the road. they had to open the taigate and let the ice slide outto alloww the wheels to lower back down. They were;nt in the ice business after this!!!!!! barry

The truck in the foreground is definitely an Albion - British made and later part of the British Motor Corporation- as the "rising sun" emblem on the radiator is prominent. centre truck compares with a slightly later model Albion and the distant one is similar to first but with slightly different mud-guards.
Fairly safe to say all are Albions

After a bit more searching, I found this. If you look at this link; http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_OvRILKx6ZaA/SuTR_xjuN8I/AAAAAAAAAQk/qkRVEOgQsAc/s1600-h/Albion+1927.jpg you'll see a similar model Albion. Large Britsh trucks were common in Australia many years ago.

Hello, those two closest to the camera are both Albions, but I'm not sure what the far one is, I'm sure it's British. It isn't a Vulcan or a Leyland. It could be an earlier Albion, possibly late 20's?

The first is an Albion c.1930 and others probably also Albions but a little later. Albions were popular in N.S.W.
They were good to drive with an easy right hand gear change and an excellent clutch.

Hi,
The vehicle on the left is definitely an "Albion". (See link below for a similar one) Judging by the numberplate, the photograph was taken no later than 1937 when this type of plate was withdrawn in favour of black on white plates showing 2 letters and three numbers. Steam trams were replaced by trolleybusses in 1937 in this neck of the woods and seeing that these vehicles are parked very near to or over the tramlines, so 1937 could be very close to being correct.
