With winter having come early this year to Britain (and no doubt elsewhere in Northern Europe) a picture that was being saved for about a month’s time might not be inappropriate to see now. Precisely when it was taken other than early in the 20th century is not known, and where is a matter for conjecture, my guess would be in Paris. Perhaps the style of the lamp posts offers a clue? (ed.: for what it's worth, about the same street lanterns are still in use in the centre of Amsterdam). Wherever it is, the authorities obviously thought it more important to clear the pavements than the roads!
