Daimler find in central Islamabad (update: Double Landaulette)

"What you don't expect to see on pakistani pakistani roads roads is exactly what we saw a little while back. This is in Saddar Rawalpindi that is considered downtown to the capital of Pakistan i.e "Islamabad" where the 1914/15 Daimler Limousine  was unearthed in very decent and complete condition. Owned from decades by the same family it is hoped that it will be preserved within the same city."

Editor: not even in good old England you will come across an Edwardian Daimler in cherry blossom metallic red with chrome wire wheels. And even without these upgrades it is a rare sight. We truly hope to hear and see more of this car as soon it is in service at Murree or Kashmir road...

Shazeb-it would be safest if the car was just on show for people to see. It certainly must have a set of new tyres & inner tubes fitted before it is driven. If the engine will turn on the starting handle, then the sump should be taken off & all the old oil drained away & everything cleaned inside. Then the cylinder heads ( they are actually called " Junk Heads " on sleeve valve engines) should be removed to check the sleeves, which are like cylinder liners, one inside another, & the pistons, are free of rust & moving moving smoothly.I think special oil is needed for sleeve valve engines-different to modern "synthetic" kinds. If there is no compression when the engine is turned, maybe the piston rings are stuck. If so, the pistons will have to be taken out, to take off the rings, clean the piston grooves & put back the rings if they are ok. New gaskets will have to be made.It is all a very big job, & if anything gets broken, spare parts will be very difficult to find ! If the engine will not turn, then the junk heads will have to be taken off to see what is wrong-pistons or sleeves will probably have got stuck. The sleeves are easily broken-take care ! It is important also to know that special oil is needed for the back axle, which is probably "worm drive".Modern oil should not be mixed with any old oil in the axle ( or the engine !). There is a club for owners of Daimler & Lanchester cars-if you contact them, they may be able to help with information.

I have no desire to be 'picky' but would politely point out that the front bumper is from the American Vintage [rather than Edwardian] era but perhaps most needed with todays traffic density.

Pakistan has similar conditions as we have in India, though some try to stare the other down. Fortunately not so in the Vintage & Classic car world.
As in India, at some point of time tires for this car would have become unavailable. And so rims were either modified, wrong tires put, or rubber strips put to fill in for tires. So tons of cars were modified or scrapped.
The car has been worked on before, at least as far as the body work goes, but it will be interesting to know more about the condition of the mechanical's. Some more photos would be welcome, and some history. Daimler's were very popular in the subcontinent, there are a few in India. One was discovered in Pakistan maybe 15 to 20 years ago and exported.

Thank you everyone, will surely chase the owner and suggest him not to push start the engine with simple oil change. Any recommendation for the the process that should be followed to recover the same engine without much further damage?

I think that, like here in Thailand, if they don't have the parts, they will make do and mend, in order to keep them moving.
But "it's all part of the provenance" !

At the risk of starting a global punch-up, I'd suggest that rather than being a limousine the wonderful body is in fact a double landaulette (or landaulet, if you prefer that spelling). It's defined by the window between the door and the fold-down three-quarter section. A single landaulette does not have this window.

I know we see the occasional old car with inappropriately chromed spokes, but in this case I'd suggest the wheels and brake drums have been painted silver or grey. I have no problem with the body colour but how do you know it's metallic?

Well-I am not so sure about the chrome wheels & metallic paint-are you sure ? But the tyres certainly look strange-are they solid ? Or some kind of motorcycle tyre, cut & flattened, or whatever ? A clever way of allowing the car to be pushed around without damage, I suppose. There is a real possibility here of serious engine damage occuring ( assuming it is a sleeve valve unit ). These sleeves stick tightly to each other & to the cylinder walls with long years of standing. Any attempt to tow-start the engine would probably break the drive cranks/levers & maybe the sleeves too. Can a message about this danger be sent by prewarcar.com to the cars owners or keepers ? It would be a tragedy if this was allowed to happen.

editor: thanks for the warning not to pull-start the car. Not sure about chrome and metallic paint, it just made this impression to our eyes.
