Don’t get caught!

Paddy Wagon or Black Maria? Both are slang for a police car used to transport large groups of people. If you’ve been in a protest rally or something like that and got yourself arrested, you’d better not find yourself thrown into the back of this 1921 Model T, as the rear compartment is a very spartan affair with not even a bench to sit on. On the upside, you arrived at the prison very quickly because a peek under the hood not only reveals the correct equipment as well as a most interesting piece of period speed equipment. The ANCO combination intake/exhaust manifold was produced by the Anderson Company of South Bend, Indiana. The “hot spot” manifold as it was billed claimed to increase the gas mileage derived from the low grade fuels available in the day by heating the atomized fuel before it entered the combustion chamber which made for a better air/fuel mixture. We saw this Paddy Wagon in the catalogue for the WWG Houston Classic Auction Weekend on April 30!
