After yesterday's posting at the website of our VSCC friends various questions came up regarding the exact regulations for cars participating in The 100 Miles. Well of course it won't hurt to read the regulations carefully. But the essence is this: any state of the art equipment as available on the market prior to 1940 is allowed. This means that you can do lots and lots of upgrades to most cars. Yet don't take the easy way out. DON'T use H4, Xenon, Krypton or whatever space-age bulbs they are selling nowadays. DON'T use an alternator unless you don't care about the penalty; a good dynamo expert can pump up your regular dynamo to the double of the original output (your editor had this done in the nineties for the Monte Carlo Challenge - with full and extra lights up - and never had a battery problem).
DON'T use Haldas, Speedpilots, Garmins, TomToms or mobile telephones. It may be news to you but they did not exist back then. However it is not forbidden to be smart, there is nothing against mounting two tachs with daycounter to be used as a sort of pre-Twinmaster equipment. DO bring (at least) 10 cents in Eurocash with you, there is a toll-bridge with a nighttime charge of that amount in the route. Period clothing is highly appreciated, but is not obligatory and there may be better alternatives to arm yourselves against Dutch December night weather. Electro thermic underwear is allowed. Feel free to post any question below and we will answer asap.
Warm regards from cold & rainy Amsterdam.
There's nothing like driving down ridiculously dark, narrow and twisty roads in the cold and damp Dutch winter. I highly reccomend it!
We will most likely have to miss this years edition due to an addition to the family, but you never know. We might make a last minute entry if the baby is early!
