We received a message from Monsieur Jean-Claude Reboul from l’Étang la Ville near Versailles. He responded to What is it? Quiz #407 we published back in November 2015. He told us that, Monsieur Gustave Tzaut we mentioned in the about what is it quiz was his mother’s father! He wrote to us: " knew him before he died in 1944. He was a Swiss man, born near Lausanne and left his country in 1891, when he was 20 years old, for the USA where he bought land to an American irrigation company in Loving, near Carlsbad, NewMexico State. He then moved to Schenectady (NY State) where he worked for the new Thomas Edison’s General Electric Company."
Once again all eyes are on the manicured lawns of Pebble Beach on the 18th of August. Where the crème de la crème of world’s most enchanting coachbuilders’ creations is ready to be judged by men in straw hats and bow ties.
Yes, there will be a class for Bugattis – even two - and, yes, there’s one for Duesenbergs as well. But Pebble Beach is also good for some real surprises. Three classes for PreWar ‘Bentley Centennial’ cars (‘Vintage 4 Cylinder’, ‘Vintage 6 Cylinder’ and ‘Derby’) will certainly see some unusual four-wheeler creations we won’t have seen before. Then there are Rolls-Royce Prewar cars, Mercedes-Benz Prewar cars and another favourite: Prewar Preservation.
The Bentley Drivers Club’s 71st annual race meeting at Silverstone – an institution on the British motor-racing calendar – once again saw another day of fantastic club racing at its very best on Saturday 3 August. This year’s meeting was extra-special as the BDC celebrated Bentley Motors’ centenary and the occasion drew an excellent crowd to witness eight exciting races plus two stunning Bentley parades.

Classics at the Palace - under new ownership and on a new unique location. This year the International Concours d’Elegance will be held on Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th of August. The beautiful grounds of Soestdijk – with its classicistic palace and estate – will be showing you automobiles from the past but also some future/electric vehicles. Besides these – very likely – perfectly polished classics, you can see PreWarCars in action during the exciting ENI sprint which promises to be very spectacular. Royal cars will be shown and there will be a royal fair. Special club displays will show you their pride and the fashion shows, art galleries and certainly not unimportant the food trucks make it an outing for the whole family. A varied program with the Classic cars in the lead!
8 women competed in the first race of its kind. Miss Fay Taylor won in a Talbot at 98.37 mph!
