A Four-tone Mystery Lady.

A charming bourgeois lady in her compact tourer with pleasing lines. Though not new, (check tyres) the car seems in fine fettle judging the clean appearance even inside the front wings. We like the shot as a total. We like the the well fed young lady. We like the design of the car. And more specific we like the detailing (click). Not only the driver's gloves. It's also the subtle Mona Lisa-ish smile aimed towards somebody left of the photographer (or maybe the photographer was standing left of the camera on a tripod). And then the metal. Take note of the two different spares. The nicely nickeled four tone horn. The subtle windshield design, with pivoting top half at the driver's side.  And the driving light that almost seems hovering on the side. Two remaining issues keep bothering however. We don't know the make of car. And what was showing at the church(?) behind the young lady that needed to be erased from the negative... ? Like usual we are reaching out for help. (collection Thomas Ulrich)

Perhaps of interest is the two different spare wheel tyre sizes. Maybe one for the front and the other for the rear ?

Could this be a Steiger 11/55 PS with a later rebody? The Steiger 11/55 PS Sport had the very rare very short base for such a car, the same spoke wheels Bugatti style and the pivoting top half at the driver side. Also the unique fixture of the headlamps vertically straight on the chassis and not on the fenders. The radiator is a sharp V with an upper nose and a later rebody could have smooth the nose, making it more Bentley style in appearance

This is a great photo we can see the car is top class and the lady is dressed in an all weather drivers outfit. The car has an air of epitome.
A stylish coachbuilt Hispano look which would infer a French photo.
The steering-wheel spokes may resemble a Bugatti yet The bonnet isn't in an oval contour, it suits a radiator with straight sides.
The two different spares would likely be standard tread on the front and the rear winter-treads for the hills.
Clearly the driver is quite experienced and perhaps well known or considerably accomplished. She is right at the peak of motoring in this pertinent era.
