The summer has finally arrived and so we get our cars out. Unfortunately, not all restoration work is finished, and an extra car is therefore necessary. The amount of space in your garage is limited and so you have to choose a small, light car. That type of car will fit anyway. The next choice that has to be made: French or British? Salmson or Austin? In the upcoming Leominster sale of Brightwells, this question is for you to answer. Among all the cars that are for sale there, 2 little tourers got our attention. A 1927 Salmson VAL 3 Tourer and a 1933 Austin Seven Tourer.
Although they are not entirely in the same price range, we would like to compare the two cars.
The Austin is the smaller one of the two and is an older restoration. Probably the best-known car of the two and will always put a smile on your face. The perfect car to drive to the local pub. And if you stop using it, your (grand-)son/ daughter can learn how to drive a pre-war car, just like you did back in the days.

The Salmson, on the other hand, is a bit more flamboyant, a true French car. It has a rear screen for the comfort of the passengers and a slightly larger engine which gives you just that extra power to go to the boulangerie. The Salmson is less known as some other car manufacturers, but we can tell from experience that it is a great car to have and to drive.

We are interested to hear your opinion: which car are you going to take home and drive this summer?

Finally the Fiat 501 is a full 4 seater car offering a degree of comfort that Austin Seven owners can only dream about. Fiat owners clubs around the world can offer mechanical advice and both new and secondhand parts to 501 owners on the rare occassions that they may be needed.
