Help identifying my uncle's car

I wonder if your readers may be able to identify the car in the photo? The occupants are my uncle's family and it is believed to have been taken in the late 1930s or early 1940s. It has many similarities with a three-position Tickford coupé but the front-hinged doors are unusual for an English car of this period so we wonder if it may be Continental?
