Holidays of 2020 - going local?

Planning a holiday abroad? Perhaps things will be different this year as international organizations continue to recommend staying home over travelling since travel increases spreading a certain virus.

Local travelling then? It often surprises us how much there is to discover just around the corner. We understand there has been a massive peak in the sales of campervans, caravans and recreational vehicles, which brings us to the beautiful picture seen here.

It was taken at around 1920 in ‘Washington D.C. or vicinity’ and showing a doctor A.A. Foster and his family. The car is believed to be Lamsteed Kampkar, designed by Samuel Lambert and built by Anheuser-Busch. The Kampcar offered four beds, a folding table, two-burner stove, eight-gallon water tank and plenty of storage facilities. It was marketed for sale at $535, and the advertising claimed that it could be attached to a Ford Model T frame in just six hours.

From the advertisements: “Make this the kind of a vacation you’ve always dreamed about - enjoy the splendour of Yellowstone, the majesty of the Grand Canyon, visit balmy Palm Beach or the great North Woods. Go anywhere you wish - on your own schedule, over your own railroad system in your own private car, stopping at your own hotel, eating your own cooking at your own table - all in great comfort and at a price you can easily afford.”

Ah – the enjoyments of the campervan. But wherever you are and wherever you go in the strange summer of 2020 - we wish you a lovely time!
