Identify Renault

Hello!

We have a Renault (prew-war), as our father (who knew the carvery well) can't help us anymore, I kindly ask you, if you can help me findingout about the year of the car and the model. I think around the year 1910-1919. Is it written in some place the year of construction in or around the car?

Attached some fotos of the car.

I thank you very much.

Best regards

Carlo Steger

As mentionned by Mr van Genugten, you should find the date of manufacture on the rear axle casing, usually on the right, between the rear axle itself and the brake.. This will help to find out the type. On the front axle itself, this time on the left, you often (but not always) have the type of the car engraved.

This is the case with our car which looks like yours but with a different bodywork. Ours is a type DJ of 1913 ie 4 cylinders, two blocks of 3.6 litres. These types have 4 speed gearbox and the first engine with pressurised oil lubrication new system patented by Renault.

Please let us know when you have found out what your car is about, I'd be keen to know
Best regards

Check the RH side of the rear axle body, from the back of the car. On the axle body close to the brakes there should be a date stamped (stamped as DD-MM-YY).

Also i’ve seen cylinders stamped, on the LH side just under the bronze nuts on the top of the cylinder, towards the front of the engine.
