A mystery meeting in Tenterden (UPD. De Dion, Straker-Squire, Darracq, Straker-Squire)

Bill Coates sends a photo which seems a nice small veteran club meeting: "I found a picture in a junk shop which I find very interesting. I know the place (Tenterden, Kent, UK) but I'm unsure of the car identities or the occasion."

Well Bill,  we're sure todays visitors will cough up the right name in no time. We ourselves are intrigued to learn in which era the photo was made.  The White Lion, didn't open 'yesterday' as you can see at another photo, when it was still an Inland Revenue Office and Posting House. We couldn't find when the gas lantern in front of the Hotel disappeared in order to give a better dating of the photo. We found another undated picture with the lantern still there. In a painting dated 1970 it seems to have made place for a White Lion ad sign. So we presume the photo was made earlier. Fifties? Fourtees? Thirties? Twenties? Tens? May we hear your bid or well educated guess. We ourselves like to make a bold statement saying RAC meeting around 1916.

The car 2nd from the left looks to have been updated with electric lights so the photo was taken around 1913 or later.

That's true, and moreover the Vulcan radiator had an edgy top in this period, unlike the Straker-Squire radiator which was flattened at the top.

Any Vulcans I have found have the radiator top level with the bonnet whereas Straker made several models with the radiator higher, as seen on the car in the picture.

Although I can't argue with registration records, my guess for the second car from the left would be a Vulcan. The radiator doesn't look Straker Squire to me.

The 2nd car from the left is of course also a Straker-Squire. Both S.-S.
cars are 1908-1909 (in 1907 the make had a different radiator shape).
The De Dion-Bouton is older indeed, probably 1903-1904, as mentioned by Mark Dawber. With respect to the car on the left, I tend to follow Mark Dawber's suggestion that it is a Darracq, probably 1908 or so. It has several details which point at this make, although I'm not 100% certain.
I couldn't find a better alternative though, so it's the best guess for the moment.

The two-seater car on the right is the 1909 Straker-Squire 12-14hp of Mr de Barri Crawshay, of Sevenoaks - not that far from Tenterden. It carries the Kent registration D-3791 but it is painted in somewhat 'freehand' form on the radiator and so does not look to read exactly like it should. The number is of 1907 and he had transferred it from an earlier 7hp Oldsmobile that he had owned. He kept the Straker-Squire into the 1920s, up-dating it to a degree over the years. Next to it, registered O-181, is an 8hp De Dion Bouton of Crawshay's son, and he also gradually up-dated his car. It finished up with a rather home-made looking pointed-nose 'streamlined' body and he raced it at Brooklands in a Private Competitors Handicap in July 1911 - where it was classified as an 'Also Ran'.
I haven't time to check the other two cars, but the Kent registrations are available at Maidstone, so details of the cars and owners would be relatively easy to obtain. They registrations are I think from 1908, but the 'occasion' would appear to be around 1909-10.

well i can see by the clothes that the ladies and gentelman are wearing that it must be around 1910-1920

1916 seems unlikely, given WW1.

I reckon the picture is not later than 1910 and may be as early as 1906. Second from the right is a circa 1903 De Dion and I think that might be a Darracq on the left.
