The main roads in Cape Town are quite lush. When you take the Wynberg exit and arrive in what used to be a small independent community - the little town of Wynberg - not much has changed. The houses are in the classic Dutch style, the plants have flowers and the birds sing.

Walking into the former fire department it is like walking into a different world. The prominent bar, a former counter at the local bank, of course, attracts the interest. But on second sight it is the walls full of car memorabilia that are of highest appeal. And certainly do not forget the 1901 Benz and the 1902 Wolseley. Each Wednesday the members of The Crankhandle club get together for a beer and a meeting, sometimes with honourable guest speakers. This time they discussed the upcoming Veteran run the next Sunday. Twenty-three motorcars and bikes would join for this leisurely event. The two London to Brighton illegible cars as being the first to start under the pleasant sun. Amongst the other entries, I want to mention the only Nordenfeldt in the world (see pictures). This 1907 car is in splendid condition and is technically a huge step forward from those of just 5 years ago.

Prior to the start of the Trails of Afrika next year April and October, the Crankhandle club will organise two special days for the participants. Some of the participants have even offered to assist in marshalling during this event.

The Crankhandle club is organising at least 10 events a month. If you, as PreWarCar.com reader, are in Cape Town, then do not hesitate and join them on one of their events.
