Carrick Watson came up with this intriguing 'biking' picture and wondered if he had the one and only remaining example? The ultimate basic two wheeler was made in 1934 by the Excelsior Motor Cycle Company. The idea was that it would be used for indoor racing on a track. It did not catch on! As you can see it was propelled by pushing yourself along with the sticks - no brakes - and steering with your feet as demonstrated by Carrick’s son Colin. Great for building up arm muscles! Carrick used it a lot at home when young, coming downhill and turning in the gate at speed over the gutter, trying to miss the gatepost, then the muscle part arrived - pushing yourself back uphill. This came in handy when Carrick started doing Motorcycle Trials, he sure was fit! Carrick has now donated it to the new spectacular Riverside Museum Glasgow. Anybody out there who owns a WOTSIT as well? We could try to make this a hype after all...
