"My way works for me, nothing special"

When you see the advert for Marty Watkins'1941 Cadillac, you may shrug 'just another shiny Cadillac' with some trophies. A typical trailer queen... Yet when you read Marty's report you'll find how he treats the car over the seasons and a bit lower also how he found it and what he subsequently did to preserve the car. Marty is not the average car guy. And his Cadillac is not the average Caddy either. Even when you're not into Cadillacs it is an interesting read.
Martin Watkins:
"....these cars were made to be driven in all kinds of weather conditions. I try to drive it in the winter at least every 5-6 weeks for a 7-12 mile, approximate 1-hour run. When driven, the engine and all systems are used and the engine is brought up to normal temperature along with the complete driveline. This is on typical suburban roads and highways at normal speeds. I use regular grade standard unleaded gasoline and 10W-40 premium grade oil, winter and summer. The weather can be cold, but must be a clear and sunny day with dry and clean roads and no obvious road salt. The car does not go out of the garage in bad weather. In the spring when the car show season is starting, I wash it with mild soap and a thorough detailing and waxing/polishing, plus perform norma lmaintenance.
I never run the engine with the car just sitting in the garage! This is the worst condition for the engine. If the weather is bad.....

I treat my 1933 Talbot 65 in a similar way, using it all year, but only in good weather. My milage is modest but there are many trips. I believe laying a car up in winter does more harm than good. I know it is the 'American way', but my criticism may be that Marty's car is too good. For example, could he have improved the original interior without replacing everything? I never replace anything original (though my car has a leather interior, which is more restorable than most fabrics).
