When his maternal grandmother died in 1956, John Barringer inherited quite a large collection of postcards from her. John writes: “She had travelled extensively in the 1920's and 30's throughout Europe and America. She had a liking for American cars and bought at least one new, a 1927 Essex Coach. However I think her finances took a turn for the worse after WW2 as I remember her driving a 1937 Hillman Minx Magnificent that seemed to be held together by string and sticky tape. It had started life as a metallic green colour but this had been polished through in a few places showing red primer until it resembled a Wehrmacht staff car in camouflage. Just before she died she traded it in for a 1949 Ford Prefect that I also inherited.” This one is a postcard from the 1930's.
