Long before Hertz en Avis (Upd. Central Garage & the language of stamps)
Humber collector Bruno Costers from Belgium always turns up with very nice period postcards. This one dates from 1906 and makes publicity for a motorcar renting agency that predates Hertz and Avis by many years. Too bad about the water stains in the card though, but then we must remember it has survived two world wars. What we also like on these old postcards is the text on the back, often incomprehensible messages from people (lovers?) long gone from this earth.

a bit earlier this photo was posted at the Old Motor and Stephanie Dempsey reported the following: The premises shown in this photograph is Central Garage which was located at the bottom of Ship Street, Brecon. J E Nott & Co was located in the High St Superior on the site of The Factory Shop (formerly Woolworths) but I can confirm that it was a Humber dealership. From Brecknock Museum, Brecon.

I had a better look at the stamp and saw that it was marked Brecon, Powys, Wales. Using Google maps I took a quick walk around the place, but couldn't find the spot where the photo was taken. Perhaps someone else can pinpoint the exact location?
