Once upon a time (actually in 1956/1957) Gavin Watkin-Rees was the proud owner of a Lagonda, a 16/80 Vandenplas 2-seater. Gavin writes: “It was an exceptionally beautiful car which possessed very modern lines for its age. I have been trying to track it down for many a year. Its chassis number was S10250; the engine number 2004 and it had registration number MG 2195. By chance I found pictures of my Lagonda on the website of Rick Ford that were taken around 1958/1961. The last information obtained from the Lagonda Club was that it belonged to Leufven Racing AB of Finks Garden 99L, Stockholm in 1977. On a visit to Stockholm two years ago I was unable to track down Leufven Racing. Who knows if my Lagonda still excists and/or can help me find it?”
(Editor’s footnote: The registration ‘MG’ was issued in Middlesex. In April 1930 University Motors (a London MG-dealer) obtained rights to the complete sequence from MG 400 onwards. These numbers were issued mostly on the MG’s they sold in the 1930s, but not exclusively. So it’s possible that Gavin’s Lagonda passed through University Motors at one time.)
Update III by editor: Lars-Göran Lindgren thinks the Lagonda is still in Sweden He gave us the name and address of the present owner, which we have forwarded to Gavin.
Update II by Gerard Lansink: "The Lagonda 16/80 of Gavin Watkin -Rees Reg.No; MG2195 was on the van den Plas files:
(Jobnumber): 1902;
Lagonda 16/80;
2-seater for lagonda Ltd.;
Ivory/Red;
"Dianne ll" painted in Red on bonnet;
12/32. (this is probably the date it finished.)
