I have recently purchased a Cottereau motor car through PreWarCar.com, believed to be circa 1905. It is a 8hp single cylinder engine, 1040 cc I believe. The chassis is steel channel rather than tube. I’m told Cottereau offered both options. The gearbox is 4 speed and reverse but I’m not sure this was an option, most of the paperwork I seen doesn’t mention a 4 speed box. 
The car has a speedster type of body but I think this should probably be a Populaire. 
 
I’m looking for any information on Cottereau or indeed the car I have purchased. Speaking to the VCC of GB they think there are about 8-10 in existence, but none known to be in the UK. Is this true?

Can’t help you much with the history other than to agree with you on it being a popuaire. Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with the project, I saw it a bit too late but would have loved to have taken it on. Hope it is soon back on the road!

Thanks for the support. As things currently stand, my first tasks will be to build the engine and back axle with a long term view to build and make work what i have rather than return it to as it was out of the factory
