More challenging than a Ferrari!

A few years ago Bill Hart purchased this Vauxhall Hurlingham at an auction. He writes: “While cosmetically well done, it had suffered some serious neglect, if not outright abuse, over the years and no serious effort had been made to bring it back to drivability. I could find very little about the history of this example. Ian Coomber in the UK, who was a Director of Vauxhall and is the Chair of the VBOA, was tireless in his advice, direction and help in providing drawings, photos and sourcing parts. One of Ian's colleagues, Nigel Irving, still owns the Hurlingham his father bought in the early 30's and also provided much advice, parts help and encouragement. The Vauxhall was repaired and restored by Wil de Groot in Frenchtown, N.J. whose shop found the Vauxhall to be an interesting diversion from the usual lot of Ferrari Daytona’s, old Maserati’s and other Italian exotica.. I plan to use the car in some rallies here in the States. It is my first vintage car and first British one to boot. We did reposition the accelerator from the original center position since I knew what pedal would get pressed in a panic situation. (Frankly, given the state of braking, as well as acceleration, it might not have made a huge difference after all). The Vauxhall now runs well and is a far more challenging drive at 50 mph than a Ferrari at 3 times that speed.”

Interesting to see what looks like seat belts fitted to the vauxhall. I wonder what other vintage motorists think about the necessity or advantage of being strapped in? In my experience it was actually very good to be able "jump" before it was too late!
