“I am trawling through a lot of old family photos and papers trying to make sense of movements between continents 100 years ago. I wonder if anyone can identify this car. It was my great grandfather's taxi. Its pre WW1 and the picture is taken in Antwerp, Belgium. My grandmother always insisted that her father owned two Benz taxis (pre - Mercedes). She was good with her hands and therefore she used to help work on them.
In 1914, both cars got lost when they were being used as ambulances during the German bombardment of Antwerp. I have finally turned up this picture of one of the taxis. Cars of this era I am not good on, but I don't think this is a Benz. I am intrigued as to what the vehicle with the round radiator and the single headlight is.”
Perry Cas wrote us this message. It came in a couple of weeks ago in response to the article Round radiators revisited we published on the 2nd of April 2016.
Can anyone tell Perry more about his great grandfather's taxi we see here? Please comment below.
