A mystery DOHC engine? (update: Vanblerck marine?)

Jiri Langer sent a few photos of an attractive yet unidentified DOHC engine.  Jiri's estimate is that it is a 1200 cc and he likes to add that some auxiliary parts may be of later date . The engine has no brand markings, stamped numbers or anything.

editor: we leave the expert advise to you out there, but our gutfeel says that his is a conversion. Of course we hope you proove us to be wrong. Very last question. Any ideas about the radiator showing on the right?

I imagine the circular bracket at the top front is for the magneto - the side cleaning for the oil pan suggests that originally it sat in a frame - portable - fairly lightweight - a suggestion may be a fire-pump engine - Coventry-Climax?

Hmm, very mystery and i think to expensive for a marine engine, 4 Inlets and outlets, maybe early race engine. If you have a photo from the back we can see the Flywheel? The front mountingpoints locks like from a car. The Radiator, maybe Rolland-Pillain?

Definitively not Lombard AL, and even my 1500cc (unique race Lombard engine with detachable head) doesn't have any comparison with this mystery engine.

The mystery engine is similar - similar to but not quite the same as the Lombard AL3. However the mystery engine does have screw caps to the inner side of the cam cases for the insertion of adjusting shims. This was a twin Cam Salmson feature which does suggest a Lombard connection.

Looks like an Oil Lift pump on the crankcase also needed when fitted to a boat as access to sump plug would have been impossible .

Judging by the paint it is a marine conversion. Why did so many marine engines get painted that funny silver/blue colour?
Other give aways are the three belt pulley on the crank-end and the water pump so low down.
