Mystery number plate

In November, 1914, an abandoned grey two-seater Benz motor car was found in mysterious circumstances on Buckstones Moor near Huddersfield, Yorkshire. The number plate was LL 4915, which the police claimed was false but later declared to be legal and that they had traced the registered owner.

The owner was a German posing as Swiss. Does anyone know if this is an early Swiss number?
Thanks for any information.

It is easy to verify that the registration number LL-4915 is an English plate, which was issued by the County Council of London somewhere between March and July, 1914. The fact that the owner was a German with Swiss cover reminds me of the stories of Sherlock Holmes, whose last story "His Last Bow" focussed on the unmasking of a German agent. Even a 100hp Benz featured in this story. Still great fun to read!
