When Mercer added the windscreen.

A Mr. Cox sent this photo for identification to Tom Laferriere who in turn sent it to us. The moment we saw the picture we felt we knew the car, but it didn't come any further until late last night. Suddenly we could envisage the car without the bumper and without the horrible windscreen. And yes - of course - it is one of the Mercer Raceabouts built after 1915. A regular guest at the yearly Hershey Saturday show is Mr. Smith, the owner of a very-very nice 1918 example with a racing bicycle mounted on the running board with the sole purpose to be the bracket for his side mirror. It our alltime favourite at AACA 's Hershey's Saturday show in October. Mr. Smith explained  that 1918 is the last year the Mercer Raceabout came without windshield. A fine example how the marketing department can ruin the looks of a great car.
