We came across something remarkable when we were going through the new auction ads. Besides the beautiful PreWarCars and PostWarClassics offered, Worldwide Auctioneers advertises the Cord® Trademark as one of their lots in the upcoming Auburn Auction. We were curious to find out what it exactly is you can bid on.
It are, in fact, the trademark, licensing and manufacturing rights to the Cord® automobile. A real opportunity to own a world-renowned brand and create a bright new future with the celebrated Cord® brand. The purchaser can offer licenses for Cord-branded parts, clothing and apparel, models and toys. “It’s only fitting that the trademark, licensing and manufacturing rights to the historic Cord automobile be offered for sale right here in Auburn where it all began,” as written in the auction catalogue. We were also curious about the asking price, as it is difficult to put a price on lots like this one. The Cord® Trademark is offered without reserve.
But if you rather have something tangible - like a real pre-war Cord, then this 1937 Cord 812 'Sportsman' Cabriolet might be of interest. Errett Loban Cord’s cars carried a look and style like no other car on the road which is certainly applicable! You either like it, or you hate it! The car offered here is an 812 that was actually one of the unsold 1936 models that was renumbered and sold as a 1937 by Cord. This is solidified by the seat sideboards that the earlier models had and by the fact that it retains its original factory serial number, body number tags and its original very powerful Lycoming V-8 engine.
Other true American classics that will be auctioned on the 30th and 31st of August 2019 are these two Packards. a 1935 Packard 1204 Super Eight Coupe Roadster. It is one of only two known with the rare dual-windshield option and the other one is a 1929 Packard Custom Eight 640 Roadster. No expense was spared in the restoration of this elegant 640 Super Eight. This Roadster scored 99 points in CCCA judging in the Senior Class at Carmel, Indiana 2011. And won the first place in the Premier Class in 2014 at the National CCCA Club Meet in Columbus, Indiana. Quality and perfection that can be enjoyed on the road!
One of the other lots offered is a 1928 Hudson Super Six Series O Victoria. A rare example of the combined efforts of Hudson, Murphy, and Biddle and Smart. And what do you think of this stylish 1934 Pontiac with Art Deco features? The sport coupe is offered from The Dakota Discoveries Collection and was featured in the book “75 Years of Pontiac”. There is no way you can overlook this 1931 Auburn 8-98 Boattail Speedster with its striking colours. The car was the recent recipient of a comprehensive body-off restoration and is now ready to drive!
