One car, three names: Sperber, Colibri, NAW (update: 1915 Sperber)

Juha Kaitanen came up with this nice period photo from Finland and wonders about the make. As the radiator shape was familiar yet the badge not very clear we started a litte search and found this wonderfull photo of a Colibri with two geisha lady drivers. Working from there the road to the Norddeutsche Automobilwerke was open and the car appears to be a 1913(?) Sperber. Georgano rightuously remarks under 'Colibri' that NAW sometimes is using their initials as a logo. "This photo was taken in a place called Huittinen. The owner of the car is local bank director.  He was listed as car owner in 1915."

This car is a NAW Sperber, not a Colibri. NAW, the Norddeutsche Automobilwerke (northern germany car company) was located in Hameln, today lower saxony. From 1908 on the Colibri was produced, a very small car, but it is definitely not a Colibri, as instead of "NAW" Colibris had the name "Colibri" pressed in the brass radiator frame. The Sperber was produced until 1919, when Walther von Selve, who had financed NAW since 1917 changed the name of the company and founded the "Selve Automobilwerke GmbH" in 1919. If the date is right, this is one of the latest Sperber, as in 1915 production of cars stopped and NAW concentrated on the production of military things. NAW produced about 800 cars per year with Export all over the world. This 1915 model is of the second model type of the Sperber, the first model also had the name pressed into the brass radiator frame.
