An Irish Motor Tour with getaway Model T.

Keith English reports: last weekend the Connacht Veteran & Vintage Motor Club organised - partly using the original route of the 1901 Motor Tour of Ireland. Over 40 cars and 5 motorcycles turned out, from the humble Austin 7 of Pat McGovern, to the mighty 30-98 Vauxhall of Jim Boland. A half way stop was at the Beach Bar, a thatched pub, right on the Atlantic Coast, with a history going back over 300 years. Apart from the cars, some of the drivers were in need of some Upper Cylinder Lubricant, Irish style of course, while a traffic jam ensued on the nearest thing to a Motorway that we have over here... The oldest car was John Blean's REO, out on its very first run, while the two cylinder brigade was represented by the Jowett Long Four of Anto Heneghan. Among the Brass radiators were Pat Keenan's Alldays & Onions and Jim Gannon's Bullnose Morris. Of the half a dozen Model T's out, Gerry Donagher's one has the most 'flashy' history, having being used as a getaway vehicle in a Bank Robbery back in the 1920's.
