Ready to roll, my ladies? (update: 1906/07 Renault AH or AM, St. Etienne?)

A large Billancourt product of the pre WWI years. It looks like one of the larger two-letter Renaults of around 1910. The high placed headlights we haven't seen in this set up very often.  So we wouldn't be surprised if the machine appears to be a custom built sports car. The chauffeur ( he is, isn't he?) gives some last minute instructions to the two attractive girls. The one in the driver seat seems to be equally impressed, amused or puzzled by the technical contraptions at their feet. Yet her codriver is holding a twig as sun protection but at the same time giving a cheeky glance to the chauffeur. Well we probably never will know what the conversation was.
To indentify the correct type of Renault the opening lid at the front of the bonnet may be helpful. We love to hear from you as we still have a large weak spot for the big brass-era and vintage "Renos". Especially with charming ladies at the wheel. (collection editor)

Undoubtedly taken at a very early VSCC Trial at Butts Quarry in Derbyshire!

This is a nice picture, but I am not sure if it is a very old one. Back then you had to sit very still for the slow moving camera and if you didn't hold it there would be a blur. What really brings these old photos and movies to life are the new techniques of colourisation. This is very important for people with low levels of imagination and do not connect with black and white photography.

it could be a Franch registration from the area of Saint Etienne but in that case the registration date would be around the end of 1907

Hello , this picture is great. About the Renault , i think the model is earlier 1910. the front axle is "circle". If the registration is french, it is in the region of Saint-Etienne and delivered between 26/08/1906 and 24/06/1908. it is difficult to estimate the longer of the chassis but the bonnet seem enough long for a 4 cylinders engine. the car could be an AH (10cv) of 1906 or AM of 1907. But the fenders are high and wheels also. compare with the man's legs !! the dimensions of tyres : 800x85 , 875x105 or 880x120 ? could it be an X or X1 (14cv 3 liter). Kind regards.

Nice Renault!. Hard to tell the models apart, but this one 1905 most likely. By 1906, Renault using I beam front axle, and other features on this vehicle different than 1904 and earlier.

What a fabulous photo! Not posed, but completely natural! It brings the past forward in time in an amazing manner, rarely seen in photos of this era (1910-20?)The two women look as though they are at an old car event only yesterday ! Not sure if the man is actually a chauffeur-hats like these were worn by early owner-drivers. The photographer is possibly a male passenger, & maybe there are two rear bucket seats-the wheelbase of the car looks quite long. Maybe the girls are practicing driving in an old quarry, safely away from the road ? Any ideas about the registration number-what country did these happy people come from ? An absolute joy !
