Swords into ploughs....

The next event by Auctions America is at the National Military History Center on December 8. What we liked from the lot list is this 1942-45 GMC DUKW, where DUKW stands for the manufacturer's code but in the army they were always referred to as the Duck, which is an appropriate name for an amphibious truck designed to ferry soldiers and supplies from ships to beaches when there were no dock or harbors and docks. Many of these Ducks are still in service, not for military use, but are converted for civil use like canal tours. Which is just as good, because you need to read the small print for the auction which says: "For collector purposes only. These military vehicles and artifacts should never be loaded and/or fired with any ammunition." Wish we could say that for all military equipment.
