A Watercooled One Pot Mystery

Spotted in Beaulieu, UK. A cylinder with brass water jacket. Diameter of the cylinder 64,5 mm. The cast iron piston seems of early 1900s making. Our first thougts were that it came of a motorcycle (Scott perhaps?) but to be honest, we are far from being sure. The seller didn't know either so we like to ask you folks, the nomad specialists out there!
Who knows which company may have made this beautiful piece of engineering? Or maybe suggestions on what kind of machine with two, three or four wheels it was mounted.

This looks like the top (cold) section of an Ericsson Caloric (hot air) engine. Look on Youtube for videos of these old engines in action, and how they work. For one with an automotive tie-in, see "poetry in motion: the fanning hot air engine" posted by 'riderericsson' on Youtube.

EARLY "marine" engines were near identical to motorcycle single cylinder engines(Evinrude...). The motorcycle manufacturers sometimes advertised marine application for their engine.
This appears to be designed for high heat endurance, a farm tiller?

Maybe it's some tool to warm the piston before putting it inside a engine..?

Editor: you mean sort of a F1 tyre warming up gear...

I suspect looking at the water flow & Bronze construction that it may have been a Marine single cylinder engine, so no wheels just a propeller.
