Depicted is the first prize, the prize for the Overall Winner of The 100 Miles of Amsterdam. A pocket watch from the famous house of clockmakers Jaeger. The watch has been designed as a clever help for the navigator to keep track of the average speed in period style. ( as you know Halda's and Speedpilot are not allowed in this event...). The average is calculated when covering a distance of 1 km. Either with standing or flying start. While most similar watches can only gauge speeds of 60 km/h or more, this watch is calibrated in a way that it can calculate down to a speed of 24 km/h. In this case 1 kilometer would take 2,5 minutes. Now if your nature is more towards higher speeds the watch won't stop you. When you cover the kilometer or mile within the indicated 12 seconds, the watch rewards you with the red figure 300, being either kilometers or miles, depending on the length of track that you set out. When studying the watch we concluded that one can use the watch as easily for averaging in miles. Start and finish should be a mile apart in that case of course. This brilliant and most usefull navigator tool is kindly made available by the Amsterdam Watch Company. They also will provide a warm drink for visitors as from 17.30 hrs, just outside the Amrath Hotel, Amsterdam. Sunday, December 16
