The classic 'no room' story

Bill Coates writes: "Reading the story about folk overcoming the lack of a garage, but getting round the problem to rebuild a car, I thought you might like to see this photo. My wife & I bought the remains of a 1934 Singer 2 litre sports back in 1970, but didn't have a garage. I figured if I rebuilt it in a back room which only had  a 1 meter wide access door, I would soon get it out when it was finished!! And yes we still have the car and yes my wife and I are still together. The second picture shows us on top of the St Gotthard Pass a couple of years ago!"

My mother in law stubbed her toe on a crankshaft which was stored under the bed. That was in 1965 - it is still mentioned!!

Love is...

In my first year of wedlock I had the head and all its bits from a Derby Bentley on all surfaces of the kitchen in our London town house, dirty, then cleaned, half cooked in the oven, assembled, and back on the motor all in a weekend. The secret? My wife was away, visiting. Our relationship has matured, to the extent that nowadays I can bring stuff into the house whilst she is present, so that I may not get cold in the garage. Re the photo:- lovely before and after pictures, of the human and metal subjects.

A tolerant partner you have there old son. I bribe my lovely wife with whatever sparkles to get away with the same. Remember the days as kids when you could rebuild that SU or Amal on the kitchen table? They have all turned in to granite Islands much too good for a bit of low tech engineering. I'm sounding like my father but what the heck. Keep on motoring and perhaps rebuild that wall for the long suffering. Chris
