It is now a year ago that 25 PreWarCars took part in The Peaks of the Caucasus - the first (all) PreWarCar rally in Georgia. An event bringing the cars high into the Caucasus, towards the Russian border and through the semi-desert towards the Azeri border. But also from the rock-hewn monasteries near Armenia to the wine cellars preserving an 8000 years old tradition of winemaking.
Situated on the edge of Europe towards Asia, Georgia is only one and a half time the size of The Netherlands but has a landscape, which is amazingly diverse. In two weeks the cars ranging from a T46 Bugatti to a Lancia Artena covered some 2400 km and had the chance to discover the rich culture and gastronomy. Actually, we would not be surprised if not only wine was first produced in Georgia but if the Italian pizza, as we know it, is not far descendent from Kachapuri.
After many special stages, at the finish at Chateau Mukhrani, it were Willem and Ellen Vermeulen in there 1938 Alvis Speed who were awarded with the challenge cup and went home with the Tsikolia watch.
An exciting movie of the rally can be seen here. For other rallies organised by Via Flaminia, click here.
Our next big event brings us to South Africa. I am confident that it will be yet another great experience.
