The Humber Rally Mystery (Upd. Hillclimb!)

Humber-enthusiast Bruno Costers found this postcard of a 1907 10/12 Coventry Humber. A nice touch is that the card was send from Geneva in Switzerland to Marseille in France, but written in English, although the text has nothing to do with the picture of the Humber. Quite intriguing is the text on the front of the card which tells us this Humber has won the “Coupes de la Faucille, Coupe Megevet et Coupe de L'A.C.S. “ Neither Bruno nor we could find anything on the web about this event. Or are we talking about three different rallies? As the card comes from Firmenich, agents for Humber in Geneva, it could be that they were Swiss rallies. Who can tell us more?

All these cups were awarded for the hillclimb at La Faucille near Gex, run on June 23rd 1907 and organised by the Geneva section of the Automobile Club Suisse. Like many climbs of the time there were prizes for efficiency and fuel consumption as well as speed and according to the report in the Journal de Genève the Humber, driven by Monsieur Firmenich himself, won the three cups mentioned and also the Coupe Continental.

Jules Mégevet was a leading member of the AC Suisse at the time: his company made radiators, various other car accessories and even motor boats.
