The Jan and Lies Amilcar Mystery (Upd. back from Lefebre-Despaux?)

This rather damaged picture was sent to us by Jody Kaldenberg. He writes: “Sitting behind the wheel of the Amilcar CGSs is Lies van Anrooij and standing next to the car is my stepfather Jan van Anrooij (click main pic). He was a well-known painter of landscapes, who lived from 1901 until 1988, but to me this picture is a mystery as I don’t know where the photo was made and who owned the Amilcar?”
What we do know is that the Amilcar has a Dutch license plate issued in the province ‘Zuid-Holland’. Perhaps the Amilcar was rented or more likely on loan from a friend. Anyway, one thing is for sure… with those enormous headlamps it must have been easy to find your way in the dark.

What large lamps you have! How refreshing. Just shows that period fittings could be anything you liked. Cheers and viva originality, in whatever form it takes.

With that amount of Lighting Power, it must have been off to or just returned from a Rally. (or hillclimb ? LOL)
(An Amilcar came 1st in the VI Monte of 1927 Lefebvre-Despaux)
It would be nice to think of this car as one of the rallyistes, the driver of which, these two people knew.
