The New Lancia Aprilia !

Lots of Lancia afficionados  are sad - not to say angry -  about the lack of pedigree of the Lancia models in recent decades. Michele Mauro and Claudio Piccioli, a design team form Italy used the 75th anniversay of the Lancia Aprilia to launch a fresh view on  the Berlinetta Aerodinamica as presented in 1936 and which came on the market early 1937. It happened like this, Michele who is a collector himself was working on an article for Automobilismo d'Epoca. During a photo shoot on Sicily with a 1350 and 1500 Aprilia he "fell in love with this incredible car".
Now you have seen lots retro design, think of New Beetle, Mini and Fiat 500, but a Retro based on a pre-war model was not seen yet! The concept they have presented is a bold and modern translation of the revolutionary concept of 1936. We like it - especially the rear end -but we love to hear your opinion as well. Please be honest and also polite, Michele and Claudio worked for several months on this design....

Looks like a promising return to outstanding marque values.
In recent years, Lancia has suffered even more than Alfa Romeo.
Once, Alfa meant the fastest - and most expensive - road legal cars you could buy - not to mention the most successful Grand Prix cars ever.
And Lancia meant refined pioneering, supported by fine engineering: just think Lambda, Aprilia, Aurelia - and, more recently, the mad - but madly effective - rally cars: Stratos, Integrale.
Today, Fiat has no idea what to do with brands that fall somewhere between Fiat and Ferrari.
Maserati - who made wonderful racing cars like the 250f - has never made a great GT car, but is positioned as a cheaper Ferrari.
Alfa - which made Enzo Ferrari important - is threatened by Detroit.
And Lancia is fighting for life: no identity, nothing special - none of the added value that lifts a brand out of the ordinary.
So bring on the ‘new’ Aprilia. Whatever it achieves, it’ll have more pedigree than the ‘new’ Beetle. It’ll be less retrograde than the plump and heavy ‘new’ Mini.
It would be great to see Lancia’s values restored. But I’m not holding my breath.

To me the only retro design that has realy worked is the Fiat 500, the Mini isn't too bad but Jaguar,Chrysler et al have been disappointing and this is no exception.

Nice try, but a bit too tall in side section. I like the shape of the rear quarter and the way it tapers back.
I built a "batmobile" back in the 1980's that had similar lines to the grille/front end. It was the definition of 'ugly car'.
Otherwise, remember that truly revolutionary design is always upsetting to the accepted styles of the day.
Is it going to be built?

A Lancia STEALTH, must be great with all the radar speed cam's everywhere. Well I like even the "new" Chrysler lancia's better (although they were better off in Chrysler hands). But each his own

In my eyes this contraption is as ugly as my grandmothers toilet. I do not really like the design of the old Aprilia, but this new CAD-version with its aggressive design must be a joke. But this is one of these days which make me love even more our Daihatsu.

There is no doubt that the original Aprilia was one of the most influential light car designs of the 20th century. It combined a host of cutting edge features which in true Lancia tradition all worked!. the body design had alot of subtle curves as well as angular lines. I think the front needs more curves. Oddly enough I like the front view. It may not be pretty, but it's quite incredibly 'striking' and unlike anything else on the road. I do not like the 'dog- leg' pre- dented panel in the rear doors and, from a practical point of view, there's little rearward visibility. But a lot of original work went into this. If you want a 'beautiful' modern eco- box you can more or less design one yourself these days on your own laptop- and of course it will look just like every other boring eco- box out there.

I can only say GREAT. It has all the aspects of an Aprilia. And again it is revolutionary.
