On September 15th, but almost 100 years ago, a certain J.M. sent a postcard to miss Eugenie Wheelhouse in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. On the back he wrote: “This is the firm where I am employed, but you can only see a small portion of it. I am A1, hope you are the same…”
If they were lovers, which we don’t know, J.M. and Eugenie were some 150 miles separated, as the factory where J.M. started work, was the Humber Motor Works in Coventry. In a brandnew 1911 Humber maybe a six hours drive, or can you give us a better estimate?
