Unidentified wheel of aircraft. Bugatti? (UPDATE - see more details below)

A reader has sent us this picture of a wheel and he wonders if it came off an aircraft? Of course, it looks exactly like a Bugatti car wheel, but there are some slight differences. This picture of the wheel beside a car wheel shows how the 'blades' are not so wide and a also bit longer with less material around the centre hub. We cannot see splines in the centre bearing nor can we see any markings on the tyre which might give a clue.
This picture of the reverse side of the wheel does not show a brake drum as expected on a Bugatti car wheel, so what is it?
Over to you - did it come from an aircraft? Or a Bugatti car?

UPDATE:  The French owner has sent more pictures, and tells us the diameter of the wheel ( without tyre) is 525mm. The centre has no splines and is 55mm internal diameter. The tyre is made by Matador in Czechoslovakia size 800 X 150  =  6.00 X 19

Hi, you will find such Wheels (layout) on many WW2 Warbirds. Goodyear and others have made such rims, also in Magnesium. The Centerhole is typical aircraft, the 38 maybe the year? Look at a B-25/29 rim

It could a half of a dual wheel set up for a Bugatti G.P.Was offered a pair of wire wheels which were dual from a Bugatti hillclimb car.
Interesting!

If the picture is greatly enlarged there appears to be some numbers cast on the wheel. They appear to be 26 and 38. These could refer to anything but, most likely, are size and/or year. The tyre also appears to have some markings. Also, it appears to lack any real tread. This would tend to indicate that it is an aircraft wheel and not that from a car.
More opinions please!

Regards, Peter.

The Miller light alloy wheel has six spokes instead of eight.

The wheel, although sligtly similar, doesn't look like Bugatti to me. Especially the rear is strange.

You do not tell us from which country your reader comes. If its America, my suggestion for the designer/maker of this wheel would be Harry Miller the great American racing car constructer. I believe its from him that Bugatti got the idea of the cast aluminium wheel, along with one or two other ideas.

Editor: Our reader comes from France, but that doesn't necessarily means it couldn't be Harry Miller of course.

It could well have come from an aircraft, since Bugatti have always had aircraft connections, from their P100 racing aircraft of the 1930's to their current involvement with Messier-Bugatti-Dowty.
Bugatti's aircraft parts business, was sold after Ettore's death in 1947.
