Very Large Daimler Chassis Discovered
Robert recently rescued this chassis from under a farm trailer and hopes someone can tell him more. He writes: "Clearly it is a large Daimler with their own distinctive wire wheels. These have splined hubs and carry 33 x 5 tyres and have the remains of Ace or similar aluminium wheel discs. The dumb-irons have been cut and brought together and the back axle (which appears to be complete and undamaged) is now bolted direct to the chassis. There is a small plate with 'Daimler List No. 20124 Please quote List No. when ordering replacements'. I would very much like to know the date and model before deciding what to do with it."
Editor: well Robert, congratulations with your find! If all fails you can always restore the chassis and turn it into the poshiest farm trailer in the world...

Robert tells us the rear axle appears to be complete & undamaged. Hmm-well,from the photos, I cannot see whether the all-important worm gear is still there. If so, & it is undamaged, then a very useful final drive assembly. If it has been taken out ( for easier rolling of the trailer ) that is bad news-unless he goes back to the farm & searches all the shelves, boxes, etc., in the sheds! Not much chance of success though-it will probably have gone where the rest of the car went. The trailer looks to have been "dry stored " so with luck, rainwater may not have got into the wheel rims ( this happens when it rains & there is little, or no, air in the tyres. This soon destroys the rims from the inside. So-hopefully, 5 wheels,5 inner tubes, pair of halfshafts + hubs, 2 brake assemblies complete & thats the lot, really. Chassis could perhaps be used as part of a welded-up job for a special. But an unusual find.

Axle is now facing backwards, Worm drive axles do not like being driven from the wheels , the Thrust is opposite to normal, worm drive units should never be towed.
